Studied in this article is the way that Pedro Almodovar challenges our perception of difference. Mixing sensuality, humor, kitsch and desire, he gives visibility to transsexuality in a way that arouses sympathy. Almodovar breaks clichés, makes fun of prejudices, and upsets the notions of sex, gender and sexuality we usually consider as natural. His work on transsexuality is part of a wider deconstruction of masculinity and patriarchy.
